Protecting the Privacy and Security of Your Health Information
The privacy and security of patient health information is a top priority for patients and their families, health care providers and professionals, and the government. Federal laws require many of the key persons and organizations that handle health information to have policies and security safeguards in place to protect your health information — whether it is stored on paper or electronically.
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) Privacy, Security, and Breach Notification Rules are the main Federal laws that protect your health information. The Privacy Rule gives you rights with respect to your health information. The Privacy Rule also sets limits on how your health information can be used and shared with others. Fall Prevention Tips
National Falls Prevention Awareness Day! Learn how older adults can prevent falls.
Did you know that one in three older Americans falls every year? Falls are the leading cause of injury for people 65 and older and can result in hip fractures, broken bones and head injuries. Even falls without a major injury can cause an older adult to become fearful or depressed, making it difficult for them to stay active. The good news is that most falls can be prevented.
CIMRO of Nebraska has been awarded special funding, through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), to assist with fall prevention efforts in our state. While falls are a threat to the health and independence of older adults, the opportunity to reduce falls has never been better.
In partnership with the Nebraska Older Adult Falls Prevention Coalition, we will promote engagement, distribute information and enhance knowledge. We will bring individuals, their families, stakeholders, community partners and healthcare providers together to promote falls prevention within our communities.
This is an issue that affects us all. We look forward to partnering with Nebraskans, community partners and healthcare providers to improve the quality of life for older Nebraskans through falls prevention and education. We hope, through our work, individuals will live safer, healthier and more independent lives.
